Fragile Maghreb - French to English #Translation

French to English Translation - Defense and International Policy

Titre: Les rebords fragiles du Maghreb
Title: The fragile edges of the Maghreb

Persistent economic and social disparities between urban centers and peripheral communities are a permanent source of instability for Maghreb countries.

HIGHLIGHTS

The social and economic marginalization of communities on the periphery of each Maghreb country is a continuing source of instability in the region.

Security forces must distinguish between the threats posed by activists and the grievances expressed by ordinary citizens. A repressive response is likely to have the opposite effect than expected, to intensify the lack of trust in central governments while fueling militancy.

The economic integration of peripheral communities is a priority. This integration must occur at the local level. Otherwise, the perception of corruption and exploitation will reinforce perceived grievances.

Spanish to English Translation - traducción
The Commerce Committee of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development met in Paris, France, on Wednesday to determine if the country met requirements for entry into the group of nations.

According to W Radio, although progress was made, the Committee delayed a decision at this time because members believe Colombia still needs to improve in some areas before confirming its entry into the group.

The newspaper La República reported that members would review a document presented by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism last March 23  on the advances in 3 outstanding areas before the organization approves Colombia's entry…

Oil at highest price in 3 years - Portuguese to English Translation

Portuguese to English Translation - Business and Economics

Manchete Original: Por que o preço do petróleo voltou ao valor mais alto em 3 anos

Title: Why the price of oil is the highest in 3 years

Portuguese to English Translation - Inglês-Português tradução
A barrel of oil hit $75 (R$261) this week, the highest price in almost three and a half years.

Recent highs come amid increasing concern in the markets for the eventual return of economic sanctions.

The price of $75 confirms a rising trend, according to different analyses.

The renewal period for the nuclear agreement between Iran and the Six Powers is slated for May 12, and if Washington withdraws from the agreement, restrictions on oil could spur prices to climb further.

7 Points to Keep in Mind about the TOEFL iBT Exam

The original article appeared on my Quora blog on TOEFL topics.

So, you are ready to take the big step to validate your level of English through the TOEFL exam.

Congratulations!

The TOEFL iBT exam is like the World Cup of soccer – bring your best game! (idiom – see more here)

The following bit of advice is in a question and answer format. Plus, you get certain links to other materials to help you.

Before you jump into the test preparation, you should know these 7 aspects to have more success.

First, I’m Professor Winn. I have taught English online and offline for about 10 years. During that time, I’ve helped students achieve their personal and professional goals through TOEFL and IELTS success.

I authored 15 Habits of Highly Successful of TOEFL iBT Candidates to help students like you!

Meanwhile, check out these seven (7) aspects to consider if you are beginning or currently studying for a high score on the TOEFL exam.

If you have a specific TOEFL question, ask it in the public forum so other test candidates can benefit.  Select me to answer it. I will try my best.
1.   Are you really committed to TOEFL excellence?

Are you mentally and physically ready for the TOEFL exam preparation regimen? The test is demanding – to think fast and make decisions. The test is long – over 4 hours. Are you ready for such an exam? If your motivation and passion are high enough, you will be better prepared for studying to notch an optimal score on the TOEFL test.

2.   Do you have time to study for the exam?
Depending on your current level of English, you may need more time than others to be ready for the exam. You should start at least 3 months before your test date. Any less time is a roll of the dice. The TOEFL is expensive. It will be costlier to retake the exam (and add delay to achieving your goals) if you have to present the exam again. When I prepare students for TOEFL excellence, one of my principles is to help students to just take the test once and then get on with their lives!
3.   Are you well read in English?
Do read widely and extensively English newspapers, journals, history and scientific texts? How easily are you able to understand what you read? How fast do you read? The faster you can process information on the exam the more time you have to find the correct answer without a rush. Plus, reading is fun! Get more TOEFL reading advice.

4.   Are you familiar with the format of the TOEFL iBT?

Of course, you are tested on the four language skills – listening, reading, speaking, and writing. However, you also need to have good grammar and vocabulary (see #5 below) skills. Remember, Academic English is tested on the TOEFL. Plus, you need to be highly able in what I call the “hidden skills” like outlining. The more you know about the exam questions – and expected answers – the better you will do on exam day! Check out more of the TOEFL iBT format on the official ETS page.

5.   Do you have a strong English vocabulary?
Building sufficient word power is another reason to not rush your TOEFL prep. If you are at the point of presenting the TOEFL, your lexicon should already by rather vast – and growing. Are you articulate in English – speaking as well as writing? Devote enough time every week during your TOEFL prep to building word power. A suggested text is: Grow Your Word Power: 301 Useful Vocabulary Terms.
6.   Do you speak English clearly?
In my TOEFL prep course, students often want to work on two parts of the exam the most: speaking and
writing. Remember, the overall goal in any language is to understand and be understood. The clarity of your oral and written communication is therefore very important. The 6 TOEFL Speaking questions test the following: 1) how well you answer the question and complete the task, 2) the grammar and vocabulary you use, and 3) how well the person scoring the test can understand you. If you have doubts about your ability to pronounce English well, check out Rachel’s English YouTube Channel as well as AccurateEnglish.

7.   What is your support structure for acing the TOEFL iBT exam?
Are you using the Kaplan TOEFL prep book? Are you taking classes at a local institute? Or are you
investing in an online course with an experienced TOEFL teacher? It can be lonely and overwhelming
preparing for the TOEFL by yourself. You should consider a support base during your prep time.

And one more thing… Believe in yourself!
Confidence is contagious. You’ve spent long hours for years learning English to prepare for this moment – to show the world how great your English skills are. Part of the mental preparedness mentioned in #1 above is your belief that yes, you are able to achieve your goals. Yes, you notch an optimal score on the TOEFL. Just like an athlete ready to run a marathon, play the World Cup, or climb a mountainside, always believe your English is top notch and work hard to make it so!

Why do you need a Medical Interpreter Certificate to become a medical interpreter?

The need for certified medical interpreters continues to grow.

The strong demand is one result of the burgeoning Spanish-speaking population in the United States.

The Pew Research indicates that one-third of

Certified Spanish Medical InterpreterHispanics cannot speak English proficiently.

In a previous article, you learned just who is a medical interpreter.

I  am studying to become a certified Spanish medical interpreter. Check out my progress in the previous article.

Below, you will learn just why a certification is necessary for interpreters to work in hospitals and clinics.

Please tweet this article to your friends.

The importance of professional medical interpreters

A medical error could result in a very negative outcome for a patient's health.

The Willie Ramirez incident is a sad, prime example.

An non-certified "interpreter" could have deadly results.

Moreover, a relative or friend also is not qualified to communicate with medical staff when a loved one is sick or injured.

Plus, without proper professional detachment, it is unfair to ask a family member or friend to feel empathy and try to focus at the same time on communicating with doctors or nurses.

Research indicates that Limited English-speaking patients often receive inferior medical care because an interpreter is not available to communicate with medical staff.

That is not right.

A rigorous certification program which includes a 40 or 60-hour certification course, a written and finally an oral exam helps prepare qualified interpreters.

I am studying now to begin a certification course in January.

I do need your help in the form of a donation though.

That is why I started a GoGetFunding campaign to help pay for the courses and exams to become a certified Spanish medical interpreter.

My effort to become a certified Spanish medical interpreter

In the previous post, I gave you an update of my progress of studying anatomy and physiology.

One needs the medical vocabulary and working knowledge of how the body functions to be a good medical interpreter.

By January, I will be ready to take the 60-hour exam to start the certification process.

I am fluent in Spanish and am already a certified translator.

Plus, I have had some interpretation classes when I was studying translation.

Thus, I have a strong base to prepare me for success as a certified Spanish medical interpreter.

Please give to help me pay for my courses and exams.

Conclusion

The 60 million people in the United States today that do not speak English well could not potentially receive adequate medical care.

However, a certified medical interpreter can be a linguistic bridge between these Limited English-speaking patients and their doctors.

I accept the challenge to become a certified Spanish medical interpreter.

Please help me pay for my courses and exams in January.

Thanks for your help!

Status Update 1 - Become a certified Spanish medical interpreter

As you may know, I'm studying to become a certified Spanish medical interpreter (and fundraising to help pay for the prerequisite 40-hours course).

A language gap between Spanish-speaking patients and their doctors in the US calls for more medical interpreters.

That is one driving motive to raise the funds for the courses and classes that begin in January.

From time to time, I will give you an update of my progress on the road to certification as a Spanish medical interpreter.

GoGetFunding for Spanish Medical Interpretation

I opened an account on GoGetFunding to help pay for the certification courses and exams as well as upgrade my computer.

My goal is $6,000 and the campaign runs till January 8.

That means there are only 46 days to go and so far I've raised - $0!

Your help of any amount can helps narrow the language gap between Limited English-speaking patients and medical staff in hospitals and clinics.

Study Progress: Human Anatomy and Physiology

I am a certified translator from Spanish and Portuguese to English.

For medical interpreters, there is also a certification process to ensure the highest fidelity to medical standards and professional ethics.

Plus, the subject matter is not academic - but a matter of life and death - that patients receive adequate medical care as soon as possible.

A part of becoming a certified Spanish medical  interpreter is of course - medical terminology.

In the medical field, that involves three distinct vocabularies:

       1. Anatomy
       2. Physiology
       3. Disease and Conditions

Anatomy is the study of the structure of body parts and their relationships to one another

Physiology is the study of the function of the
body’s structural machinery

Common Diseases and Conditions are of course ailments afflicting the body.

Then, there are other considerations as well.

There are layman terms for scientific parts of the body.

For example, the trachea is commonly known as the windpipe among non-medical professionals.

Then there is Spanish.

So, anyone studying to be a medical interpreter has to be skillful managing three languages at a time!

I used Google to find a syllabus of medical terminology to follow in my home study.

Now, with this syllabus as a road map, I can methodically study the different parts of anatomy and physiology.

Then I can translate the English to Spanish (and verify the terms).

As a certified translator, that is not difficult at all.

So, between my own study and translation, I can reinforce my medical vocabulary.

Besides a syllabus, there is a plethora of quality medical information online to focus on a particular part of the body.

For example, I created this short listing from a presentation about the Respiratory System.

You may download the full table of terms here.

So as you can see, I am doing my part to prepare for the medical courses and certification exams in January.

Could you help me pay for these courses and exams?

Thank you! (Please tweet this article to your friends!)

Sound understanding of the role of the healthcare interpreter as a professional

Translators and interpreters are professionals just like nurses and doctors.

The valuable language link they provide - whether in texts for translators or conversations for interpreters - bridge the linguistic gap around the world.

Countless sacrifice, time, and training have been expended not just to learn a new language, but to know how to translate and to interpret.

In a hospital or clinic, a medical interpreter plays a special role to help close the language gap between patients and their doctors.

Education, experience, and certifications are not only for medical personnel, but translators and interpreters as well.

Conclusion

Thank you for reading this entire post!

It is heartening to know you are interested in the quest of a certified translator to become a certified Spanish medical interpreter.

Your help can close the language gap between Limited English-speaking patients and medical staff when you help me become a medical interpreter.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Thank you for your donation today.
